An inspiration which appropriately came to me on Earth Day, April 2025
O Žemyna, earth mother, kind,
we pray this day your love to find.
Yours is the oak, ‘round which we meet;
your body, earth, beneath our feet.
In vernal splendour you’re attired,
from sleeping latency transpired.
Abundant life, by which you bless;
beauty astounds us, your caress.
The dance eternal you awake;
by inspiration, us remake.
Divine fecundity your gift;
at this, your springtime, minds uplift.
Spilt finest ale, for you this day,
beer ladled out, libations paid.
Through our year’s work, this bear in mind,
and bless your harvest, grains to grind.
But more than this, through summer’s toil,
inspire our hearts as we till soil.
As nights lengthen, ending labour,
your true bounty will we savour.
And so we sing in this your grove,
‘midst forest paths on which we strode.
Our feet are rooted in the loam,
here we will praise you; this your home.
